With the Chinese Sea to the southeast and the Himalayan Mountains to the west, the wall consists of several parts that merge into one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In total, the wall has a length of&nbsp;<strong>21,196.18 kilometers<\/strong>. It is one of the few man-made structures that can be seen from outer space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The construction of the&nbsp;<strong>Great Wall<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<em>China<\/em>&nbsp;lasted almost 1800 years and it is very special indeed that dozens of emperors have financed the construction over the years. Tens of millions of people visit this wonder of the world every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The construction that runs through the mountains has become the symbol of China. The best-preserved part of the wall runs from east to west from the southeastern province of&nbsp;<em>Liaoning<\/em>&nbsp;to the northwestern province of Gansu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Number 6: The Taj Mahal, India<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.travel-feed.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/uploads\/sites\/8\/1549451650_078c61fef37704c1d4e8c52f5b53a66fc3c39e62-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by\u00a0Sudipta Mondal\u00a0from\u00a0Pexels\" class=\"wp-image-250\" \/><figcaption>Source: Pexels<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<strong>Taj<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Mahal<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<em>India<\/em>&nbsp;was built between 1632 and 1648 by&nbsp;<strong>Emperor<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Shah Jahan<\/strong>&nbsp;in memory of his wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is one of the most unique buildings ever made because of the size of the dome and the choice of material. It is also very characteristic for the&nbsp;<strong>Mughal<\/strong>&nbsp;Empire, which ruled the country at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was built by more than 20,000 workers using Indian elephants. In total it has, therefore, lasted more than 600 years. This miracle was only discovered when&nbsp;<strong>Ludwig<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Burckhardt was<\/strong>&nbsp;the first&nbsp;<em>European to visit<\/em>&nbsp;the desert of Jordan in&nbsp;1812.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This town, built in sandstone, was built here because of the strategic location of ancient&nbsp;routes serving the trade of spices and silk.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2016 the city had 450,000 visitors. This is because its location in the desert is very remote. It is the least visited&nbsp;<strong>wonder of the world,<\/strong>&nbsp;partly because of instability and wars that take place in the&nbsp;<em>Middle<\/em>&nbsp;<em>East<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nowadays, the monuments are vulnerable to flash floods and continuous erosion by wind and rain, so there is no certainty about how long this&nbsp;<strong>wonder of the world<\/strong>&nbsp;continues to exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Number 4: The Colosseum, Italy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.travel-feed.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/uploads\/sites\/8\/1549451676_de0e6c5e5d61eb5d25e203e4a2c2d85a98773c8d-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Colosseum Rome. It was the largest amphitheater of the&nbsp;<em>Roman<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Empire<\/em>&nbsp;and it should accommodate 70,000 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was used for 400 years, serving gladiator fights, hunting shows with exotic animals, as well as public executions. After the fall of the&nbsp;<em>Roman<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Empire<\/em>, it was temporarily used as a residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2016, a total of six million people had been inside the&nbsp;<strong>Colosseum<\/strong>. The style of this building clearly shows&nbsp;<em>Roman<\/em>&nbsp;architectural innovation, making use of arches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to damage caused by an earthquake and the theft of the materials of the&nbsp;<strong>Colosseum<\/strong>, only one-third of the original structure remained intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Number 3: Christ the Redeemer, Brazil<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"632\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.travel-feed.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/uploads\/sites\/8\/1549451704_e8ec99f4068d8c16d8b6b58fd9177d38a625e860.jpg\" alt=\"Christ the Redeemer. It was completed in 1931.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<strong>Roman<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Catholic<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>church<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<em>Rio<\/em>&nbsp;<em>de<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Janeiro<\/em>&nbsp;had the statue built during a time in which almost 90 percent of the&nbsp;<em>Brazilians were<\/em>&nbsp;Catholic. The statue measuring 40-meters with a weight of 1145 tons is the most famous construction in&nbsp;<em>Brazil<\/em>&nbsp;and souvenirs to it can be found all over the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statue stands at an altitude of 700 meters at the top of Mount&nbsp;<strong>Corcovado<\/strong>, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view over&nbsp;<em>Rio<\/em>&nbsp;<em>de<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Janeiro<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On average, two million tourists climb the mountain per year to visit the statue. In total, the construction took about 800 years. It was one of the most important cities in&nbsp;<strong>Mayan<\/strong>&nbsp;times, until, based on political circumstances, a union took place with two other cities,&nbsp;<em>Mayap\u00e1n<\/em>&nbsp;and Uxmal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contrary to what many people think, it was already abandoned in the 16<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;century, when the Spaniards discovered America. In the early&nbsp;<sup>19th<\/sup>&nbsp;century, it was discovered by the new society and archaeological excavations began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ruins have ensured that much more is clear about the way of life and religious thoughts of the&nbsp;<strong>Maya<\/strong>&nbsp;civilization today. Meanwhile, however, nature had taken over the city, which gave the city a magical look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nowadays it is reached by climbing the&nbsp;<strong>Inca<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;<strong>path<\/strong>&nbsp;through the&nbsp;<em>Andes<\/em>&nbsp;or by train.
